My Hero Academia is one of the most popular anime & manga series of the moment You know what else is very popular now? Fortnite, and all “Battle Royale” type games in general. Although this shonen anime already has experience in the genre due to the character skins that had been added to Fortnite, now it went up to another level: we’re talking about a Battle Royale exclusively from MHA, titled My Hero Ultra Rumble. This had already had its closed betas in Japan and the US in 2022, and an open beta in early 2023. But now it’s been confirmed that the full game is coming for everyone, and its release date is surprisingly close.
My Hero Academia Battle Royale is almost here!
My Hero Ultra Rumble is an interesting new proposal from Bandai Namco. A Battle Royale where 24 players (all in 8 teams of 3 people each) must fight until only one emerges victorious. Obviously, the twist is that you can choose one of the heroes or villains of My Hero Academia. In previous versions of the game, we had already seen characters like Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochako Uraraka, Tsuyu Asui, All Might, Mt Lady, Cementoss, Himiko Toga, Tomura Shigaraki and many more. But the official release comes with the announcement of 3 new characters: Eijiro Kirishima, Momo Yayaorozu and Ibara Shozaki, from Class B of U.A. Academy.
The main appeal of My Hero Academia as an action shonen manga is the concept of the Gifts (Also known as “Quirks” or “Kosei”), the individual powers that each hero and villain is born with. From what we could see, this power system will have all sorts of applications in My Hero Ultra Rumble, as characters will be able to use their unique abilities to attack, defend, dodge and even move around the huge maps (which are also inspired by iconic locations from the anime).
We could see Deku using his Black Whip to swing like Spider-Man, Bakugo attacking opponents with explosions, Shigaraki destroying surrounding structures with his Deterioration, Kendo protecting his team with his giant fists, Ochako levitating everyone with her Gravity Control and much more. On top of all this, you’ll be able to find different items throughout the map that will help you in confrontations, including one that will allow you to enter the “Plus Ultra” mode, which will temporarily increase your abilities and whose name refers to the classic My Hero Academia motto.
Ultra Rumble looks like a truly chaotic and fun experience that encapsulates the essence of My Hero Academia. The best part is that, like other titles in the Battle Royale genre, this game will be completely free-to-play. Although we wouldn’t be surprised if it includes some method of monetization, as it was described with the term “Free-to-Play“. My Hero Ultra Rumble will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC from September 28th. That’s right, you can try it in a few days!
