“Mushoku Tensei” (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation) is a work that has won a large number of fans over time for its intriguing story. And although it can also cause controversy, its fascinating plot managed to win the affection of many fans who faithfully follow both the manga and the anime. Surely some people were wondering about the origin of this story and recently people from the Mushoku Tensei community came across information on social networks provided by Rifujin na Magonote, mangaka of this work, which gave an answer to this question.
Re:Monster was the inspiration for Rifujin na Magonote, mangaka of Mushoku Tensei to create this world.
In this social network known as Twitter/X, some Mushoku Tensei fans recently found a publication by Rifujin na Magonote, where he explained the reason why he started writing this story. Quoting verbatim, his words were as follows: “It started when I discovered a work called RE:MONSTER in a bookstore and found it very interesting. Then I discovered the website Narou and read many more works there and thought, if I publish my novel there I won’t be ridiculed.”
Narou is a website that was created in 2004 and contains about one million novels, including popular works such as Mushoku Tensei, Arifureta Shokugyō by Sekai Saikyō, Overlord, and KonoSuba! among others. Surely at that time, the mangaka did not imagine the popularity that his story would gain and that it would become beloved by the otaku community, bringing him magnificent news such as an anime adaptation that still continues to broadcast and constantly gives much to talk about in social networks.
In January 2014, that is, 2 years after Mushoku Tensei began to be published on this website, light novels began to be serialized under the MF Books label, a Media Factory company. These novels would feature illustrations made by a Pixiv user known as ShiroTaka. In June of that same year, a manga adaptation began to be published in Monthly Comic Flapper, said manga features art made by Yuka Fujikawa. And since December 2017, a spin-off created by Shoko Iwami is published on Kadokawa’s website called ComicWalker.
On the other hand, the RE:MOSNTER written by Kogitsune Kanekiru and illustrated by Yamaada, has an anime adaptation that is currently airing and was brought to us by Studio Deen studio. This story started out being published the Narou, the aforementioned website between 2011 and 2018. It was then acquired by AlphaPolis, who published nine volumes of the main story and two additional volumes in a parallel story between August 2012 and August 2017.
On the AlphaPolis website, a manga adaptation has been published since March 2014, this contains art by Haruyoshi Kobayakawa. Similarly, a sequel to the light novels began publication in July 2018 on AlphaPolis, this one has been written by Kanekiru and illustrated by Naji Yanagida. RE:MONSTER, tells us the story of Tomokui Kanata who, after being unlived, is reincarnated in another world as a goblin, this being the weakest race in this new world. However, he has a new ability that allows him to gain strength as he feeds.
This leads him to rise quickly and become the leader of the goblins. With these new features, he is definitely enjoying this new world.Without a doubt, it is amazing to see the path that both works have traveled since their beginnings, being published on this website, until today, where they already have different published formats and adaptations to anime, as well as a large number of followers of these stories.
