One of the franchises considered “cult” due to its growing popularity in the early 2000s is “Medabots”, which is fondly remembered by the children of that time, most of whom are now in their third decade of life. Also known as “Medarots” in Japan, the series was originally an RPG video game franchise. And now, the Medabots are preparing to release “Medabots: Survivors” a unique version for iOS and Android smartphones.
Smartphones prepare to receive Medabots
The game developer Imagineer Co., Ltd. was created in 1986 and has given great releases since its creation such as: Doom (1994), Atelier Elie GB| Atelier Marie GB (2000), SimCity 2000 (1994) and 17 games of the Medabots saga ranging from the first “Medarot” in 1997 to the most recent one: Medarot Classics Plus which was released as a Nintendo Switch exclusive in 2020 and which will release a 15th installment next in February 2025 for mobile devices featuring iOS and Android
This is not the first time that an installment of Medarots comes to iOS and Android mobile devices, as, in January 2020 was released “Medarot S: Unlimited Nova” another RPG. However, this second installment for smartphones that will arrive in 2025: “Survivors” will be the first of the franchise to leave the tonic of role-playing games to which we are already accustomed, being a survival video game, making it more interesting and huge.
Medabots: Survivors will be a “Free to Play” where the main objectives are to recruit the charismatic robots, either the favorites of the fandom that has followed the video games throughout history or those appearing in the series broadcast between 1999 and 2000. It requires great skill to control the Medabots and survive against huge waves of enemies, the choice of our characters (based on skills, strength, etc.) will be the key to victory.
From launch day in February 2025, you will be able to choose from more than 30 medabots, their main abilities will be to launch long or short distance missiles, eliminate enemies with melee skills, set traps and intercept attacks. Each battle requires a different medabot and you can experiment with favorite Medabots from the classic series such as Metabee, Brass and Cyandog, although the game’s illustrator stated that in future updates he plans to include new and better Medarot designs.
The Medabots anime had two series, the first one from 1999-2000 and a second one, “Damashii” from 2000 to 2001, both were translated into English and were very popular being “cult” series for many anime veterans. The first one had 52 episodes and was in charge of Bee Train Studios, the second series had only 39 episodes and was in charge of Trans Arts, Damashii is the continuation of the first one and tells the adventures of Ikki with his partner Metabee.
