The original anime “Lycoris Recoil” began broadcasting on Japanese television on July 2, 2022. The series consisted of a total of 13 episodes and its last episode was broadcast in Japan on September 24, 2022.
The renowned animation studio A-1 Pictures was in charge of its production and it was broadcast legally and simultaneously through the Crunchyroll platform, which made an English dubbing for the anime.
Recall that in February 2023, the official media of the anime Lycoris Recoil announced the production of an anime project. However, to date, not much information has been released about this sequel to Lycoris Recoil.
The Lycoris Recoil anime also has a manga adaptation by Yasunori Bizen, which is published in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Flapper magazine. In addition, a spin-off light novel, titled Lycoris Recoil: Ordinary Days, began publication under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint in September 2022. The anime Lycoris Recoil has the following description: The story puts us in the context of a Japan where crime and terror have been kept at bay thanks to the clandestine operations of the “Direct Attack” (DA) syndicate. In this universe, orphan girls are trained as lethal assassins under the “Lycoris” program, playing a crucial role in preserving the peace.
Our protagonist, Takina Inoue, stands out as an exceptional Lycoris, imbued with determination and perfectionism. However, an act of insubordination during a hostage situation relegates her from the DA and leads her to an unexpected new destination: LycoReco, a coffee shop that serves as a cover for less conventional operations.
At this new location, Takina meets her partner, Chisato Nishikigi, a Lycoris prodigy known for her prowess, but who seems surprisingly disinterested in her duties. Chisato takes Takina on peculiar missions, where, puzzlingly, she demonstrates her skills without resorting to lethal violence. Between odd jobs and life lessons, Takina is torn between her desire to return to the DA and the perspective of Chisato, who is determined to show her that there is more to life than simply taking it away.
