Lies of P, a title developed by NEOWIZ and edited by Fireshine Games, has just released a few hours ago an update that strips its first-born work of the much-feared anti-piracy protection called Denuvo. But unlike what happens with most titles that opt for this path, this decision was the result of a blunder that was exploited by those groups that usually sail the “7 seas” within the community of compatible (PC).
This time it wasn’t Pinocchio’s lies… – Lies of P
The first thing would be to put into context the situation of games on PC and how they are updated at the level of files and so on. In simple words, this whole process is carried out in the “official folder” that each work acquires when it becomes part of the Steam ecosystem. It is here where developers renew the files and configurations that users will see reflected in the updates that are released from time to time and that carry most of the playable changes that we see in the new versions.
Now, in every installation there is an .exe file that allows access to the title in question, this being the most important in the directory of each work and the place where developers add the anti-piracy protection system in order to provide their work with a system to prevent theft or violation. However, in the case of the developers of Lies of P, they made the mistake of publishing a version without protection which served as a test for future changes to the code.
In this way and with the name of LOP-Win64-Test.exe, those in charge of the PC version updated the Steam repository publicly allowing users who had the game downloaded, could have access to this build that was going to be part of the update that ended up seeing the light of day yesterday. Obviously, this would not have caused a major problem if the file had been kept with restrictions such as exclusive access by the developers, but apparently, these changes were handled without apparent care.
Within minutes, the crucial file was circulating on the Internet without the minds behind Lies of P being able to do anything about it. And with the damage already done, they would communicate hours later their decision to stop Denuvo protection on PC with the clear monetary loss that this entails. A real shame for a team that has been showing a genuine interest in improving a product that was solid from the day of its launch.
Despite this, the update that was released adds improvements such as new features and content as well as improving the translation in different languages. Added to this is the correction of bugs which have made NEOWIZ’s masterpiece continue to be even more rounded in the face of the next DLC’s that will be released in the coming months.
Remember that if you want to get your hands on Lies of P, which turned out to be one of the best titles of 2023, you can buy it on the PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms through Steam. Similarly, Anmo Sugoi will be sharing more information about the upcoming DLC’s to be released as new news comes out.
