In today’s special broadcast, the anime adaptation of the light novel Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) has provided new special information about its long awaited second season.
One of the most important is the expected premiere date of this season, and although it is still several months away, it was confirmed that this new installment of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto will premiere on Japanese television on January 10, 2025. This news was accompanied by a new visual image, which has as protagonists the characters Maomao and Jinshi.

Previously, it was announced that the second season of the series will be broadcast legally through the Crunchyroll platform.
The second season of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto will feature the following production team: Norihiro Naganuma will be in charge of directing and composing the anime. Animation studios TOHO Animation and OLM are in charge of the anime’s production. Yukiko Nakatani is in charge of the character designs. Satoru Kousaki and Kevin Penkin will be in charge of composing the anime’s soundtrack.

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, also known as The Apothecary Diaries in the West, is a popular light novel written by Natsu Hyuuga and illustrated by Touko Shino that began publication at Shufunotomo Publishing House’s Hero Bunko imprint as of August 29, 2014. As some may guess, the work is still in publication and Shufunotomo Publishing has released a total of 15 volumes + 1st limited edition of the work.
The light novel Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has a manga adaptation by illustrator Nekokurage. This manga adaptation began its serialization in Gekkan Big Gangan magazine of Square Enix since September 2017. Thanks to the good reception of the public to the light novel by Natsu Hyuuga and Touko Shino, in the month of February 2023, the production of an anime adaptation for Kusuriya no Hitorigoto was announced. The anime series began broadcasting on television in Japan on October 22, 2023.
The animation studios OLM and TOHO Animation Studio were in charge of the production of the series and it was broadcast legally through the Crunchyroll platform, which made a dubbing into English. Another detail to highlight is that the anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto consisted of a total of 24 episodes.
The anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto has the following description: The story follows Maomao, the daughter of an apothecary, who is torn from her peaceful life to be sold and turned into a mere maid on the lower rungs of the palace.
Despite her humble position, Maomao skillfully hides her vast knowledge of medicine, trying to avoid any unwanted attention. However, her fate changes drastically when the emperor’s young children begin to suffer mysterious symptoms, setting off a chain of events that will lead her to unravel dark secrets.
As Maomao solves the medical riddles that afflict the imperial court, her insight and skills do not go unnoticed, earning her recognition and promotion to lady-in-waiting to the emperor’s favorite concubine, Gyokuyou. With her pharmaceutical knowledge, Maomao becomes an indispensable figure, facing palace intrigues and challenges that will test her wit and courage.
