Komi-san wa, Komyushou Desu” follows the life of Hitohito Tadano, an ordinary young man with a pretty clear plan for his first day at high school: avoid trouble and do his best to fit in with the other students. However, everything changes when he ends up sitting next to Shouko Komi, who is known as the “queen” of the school. From then on, his classmates see him as an obstacle to get the chance to sit next to the most popular girl in the class.

Komi, with her beauty and elegance, and her long dark hair, is adored by everyone and enjoys immense popularity, despite her enigmatic personality. But what no one knows is that she suffers from crippling anxiety and a communication disorder that prevents her from sincerely relating to her peers.

In a moment of solitude in the classroom, a series of events leads Komi to communicate with Tadano by writing on the blackboard, as if it were a one-way conversation. Being the first to realize his difficulties in communicating, Tadano picks up the chalk and begins to write as well.
