Good news for fans of the valuptuous Ilulu from the Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) franchise, as it was announced today the release of a new spin-off manga of Cool-kyou Shinja’s work, which will feature this dragon as the main protagonist alongside her ‘human partner’ Taketo Aida.
This news was announced on the official X account of the manga Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, where it was specified that the new spin-off manga of the franchise will be titled Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Ilulu wa Koi toka Wakarimasen! (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Iruru doesn’t Understand Love!) and will be released in bookstores in Japan on November 12th of this year.
Additionally, it was reported that this spin-off manga will be written by Kometsubu, who has been involved in other manga such as Oniichan wa Oshimai! Koushiki Anthology Comic, Ishuzoku Reviewers Comic Anthology: Darkness, Isekai Fuuzoku Anthology Comic, works full of racy scenes, so this work will have that direction. As mentioned before, this spin-off manga will feature Ilulu and Taketo, who will narrate their lively and bittersweet daily life.

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, also known as ‘Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid’ in the West, is a slice-of-life fantasy manga that began serialisation in Gekkan Action magazine, published by Futabasha in May 2013. The work is written and illustrated by mangaka Cool-kyou Shinja, who has worked on other manga such as Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi and Komori-san wa Kotowarenai!
Thanks to the good reception of the Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid manga, an anime adaptation of the work was announced in May 2016. The series began airing in Japan on 11 January 2017 and consisted of a total of 2 exciting seasons, with a total of 25 episodes and 2 OVAs.
The animation studio Kyoto Animation and the first season was directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto, while the second season was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara. The series is available legally on the Crunchyroll platform and has a English dub.
On 21 September, the official media of the anime Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon announced the production of a film for the series. This film will be titled Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryuu and will be released in 2025.
The manga Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon has the following description: The story introduces us to the life of Kobayashi, who is preparing for another day at work. However, when she opens the door to her flat, she is met with an unusually terrifying sight: the head of a dragon staring at her from the other side of the balcony. The dragon immediately transforms into a pretty, talented and energetic young woman dressed in a maid’s outfit, introducing herself as Tohru.
It turns out that the stoic programmer had encountered the dragon the night before on a hike in the mountains, and having nowhere else to go, had offered the creature a place to stay in her home. So Tohru had arrived to accept the offer, ready to thank her saviour for her kindness by working as her personal servant. Although Kobayashi feels deeply regretful for her words and hesitates to keep her promise, a mixture of guilt and Tohru’s amazing dragon skills convince Kobayashi to accept the girl.
Despite being extremely efficient at her job, the maid’s unconventional cleaning methods often end up scaring Kobayashi and, at times, generate more trouble than help. Furthermore, the circumstances behind the dragon’s arrival on Earth appear to be much more complex than they appear, as Tohru has intense emotions and painful memories.
To make matters worse, Tohru’s presence ends up attracting several other mythical beings to his new home, bringing with him a host of eccentric personalities. Although Kobayashi does her best to handle the peculiar situation she finds herself in, nothing has prepared her for this new life with a dragon maid.
