Undoubtedly, “Kaijuu 8-gou” (Kaiju No. 8) was one of the most important anime with the most repercussion last season, as fans liked the action, the plot and the development that this work had. Fortunately, for all those who enjoyed this series, the date for the long-awaited second season has finally been announced, as well as a movie and one more surprise.
Kaiju No. 8 returns in 2025 with a second season, a movie and a special OVA!
Through the official media, on the various social networks of the anime and manga franchise called “Kaiju No. 8” it has been announced, through a special video, that the anime adaptation will have a second season scheduled to premiere next year 2025 in Japan.
Also, in the 56-second promotional preview, it is also reported that a compilation movie of the first season along with a special episode (OVA) focusing on the Third Division Vice Captain of the Defense Force, Soshiro Hoshina, called “Hoshina`s Day Off” will be released in Japanese theaters next year.
“Kaijuu 8-gou” also known in the West by its English title as “Kaiju No.8” is a manga of the action, adventure, kaijuu and science fiction genre written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, whose publication began in July 2020 in the digital magazine “Jump+” of the famous publishing house Shueisha. In August 2022 it was announced that the manga would have an animated adaptation by “I.G Producion”.
This adaptation of “Kaiju No.8” had 12 episodes, premiered in the months of April through June, during the spring season of this year 2024 in Japan and was available to everyone through Crunchyroll. The opening theme called “Abyss” was performed by English singer Yungblud and the closing theme called “Nobody” was performed by the American band OneRepublic.
“Kaiju No.8” takes us into a story where the world and especially Japan have been the target of constant attacks by “kaijuus”, monsters of various sizes that have left the country in a critical situation. To face this new and terrible threat, the Japanese government decides to create the “Defense Corps“, a corps of elite soldiers that day by day faces these monsters and an even greater danger, the so-called “numbered kaiju” whose powers are even more terrible.
In this context we meet Kafka Hibino, a member of the team called “Monster Sweeper”, a public division of the government dedicated to cleaning the organic remains of the kaiju exterminated in battle by the defense corps. Every year Kafka takes the exam to join the infantry corps to fulfill his dream and a promise to exterminate the monsters responsible for destroying his city.
Unfortunately, every year, Kafka is rejected because of his poor aptitude for the defense corps, until one day he suffers an attack by a “residual kaiju“, so he ends up hospitalized. This is how mysteriously, during his rest, one of these monsters enters his room and invades his body, making our protagonist now acquire the abilities of one of these powerful numbered kaijuus.
Now Kafka as the “Kaiju No. 8” decides to use this enormous power to exterminate these monsters that terrorize Japan and once again take the entrance exam to the defense corps to finally fulfill his dream and his promise to a childhood friend who is waiting for him at the top of this elite group.
