Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen, also known as Kaguya-sama: Love is War in the West, is a romantic comedy manga written and illustrated by Aka Akasaka. It began its publication in the magazine “Miracle Jump” (2015-2016) and then moved to the magazine “Shuukan Young Jump”, both belonging to the publisher Shueisha.
The manga has already concluded and the publisher Shueisha has released a total of 27 compilation volumes to the market. In addition, it has inspired two spin-offs that were released in 2018. Some time ago, it was reported that the manga has exceeded the impressive figure of 20 million copies in circulation.
On January 12, 2019, the manga Kaguya-sama: Love is War was adapted to anime, which consisted of three seasons in total (with 36 episodes) and a movie. The production of the series was in charge of the animation studio A-1 Pictures, under the direction of Shinichi Omata. The series is available legally on the Crunchyroll platform and has a dubbing in Latin Spanish.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War takes place at the prestigious Shuchiin Academy, where two brilliant students, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya, are the leaders of the student council. Miyuki, recognized as the best student in the country, holds the position of president, while Kaguya, heiress of a wealthy family, is the vice president. Their academic success and prestige make them the perfect couple and object of envy among other students.
However, despite their mutual feelings, neither of them is willing to admit their love for fear of losing the game of pride. They are both convinced that the first to confess will be considered less skilled in the art of romance. This premise leads to comedic situations and elaborate strategies while they try to win the battle of love without giving up their position.
As the plot progresses, viewers witness Miyuki and Kaguya’s evolution. Their motivations, insecurities, and relationship development are explored through witty confrontations and moments of complicity. In addition, other characters from the student council and their interaction with the main couple are presented, bringing a rich variety of personalities to the anime.
