Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen goes viral for “plagiarism”.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga has shocked fans of the franchise for its large doses of action, thanks to the great power that Yuta Okkotsu (protagonist of the prequel of the series) has to face Kenjaku and Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen is said to have copied Fate/Stay Night

Chapter 249 of Jujutsu Kaisen has triggered a wave of comments due to how frenetic Yuta and Sukuna’s fight has become, ending with some panels where the power of Yuta’s domain expansion is appreciated. It is at that moment that we can see in the background how both characters are surrounded by katanas on all sides, as if a wave of weapons had hit the ground.

The expansion of Yuta Okkotsu’s domain seen in Jujutsu Kaisen, besides generating positive comments, has also been pointed out in Japanese forums for being a possible copy of a technique from the Fate/Stay Night franchise.

The debate increased thanks to a publication in the popular blog Yaraon with the title “Jujutsu Kaisen: Okkotsu’s domain expansion is a technique copied from Fate, hahaha” shows a comparison with two images belonging to both franchises, in an attempt to point out the possible plagiarism of the shonen of the moment.

Recall that in Fate/Stay Night the Archer class character is able to summon a wide variety of weapons, surprisingly having a technique with which he is able to throw a large number of swords against his enemies.

It is this same scenario that is similar to the expansion of Yuta’s domain that has generated so much criticism, although it is important to note that the universes of both franchises are completely different and the skills of the two characters differ too much.

Among the comments made by the community there are those who point out that the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen is a big fan of Fate, others point out that it could be a tribute because Archer’s ability is completely different.

Other users point out that the scenario of being surrounded by swords does not belong to Fate/Stay Night. This was evidenced when one user shared an image showing Ichigo, at the beginning of the Bleach manga, getting caught between countless swords while trying to get his Bankai.

One user noted “Most people see this and think it’s Fate. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a manga that plagiarizes in such an innocent way”, although another user expressed that it is not the first or second time a character has had a similar ability, pointing out that it is a resource used for decades in different manga.

One of the most prominent comments notes, “It’s embarrassing to see people talking about expressions that could have been used countless times in the past as if they were the original Fate material.” As we delve deeper into the community’s responses, it becomes apparent how the discussion of whether it constitutes plagiarism is easily diluted and fans in Japan seem to be more excited to prove which franchise is superior.
