We are sure that anyone you ask about Japan will tell you that it is a fascinating country, as its culture, food and art are among the most representative of the world and what to say about its work culture, one of the best on the planet, which obviously is not without some shadows; but what is indisputable is that the eastern country always has something new to surprise us with and this time is no different. Today we will present you with a curious story involving government workers and H dolls.
In Japan, Tokushima Prefecture displayed “H-dolls” at an official local government event!
It turns out that this past January 23rd the Tokushima prefectural government received a strong warning from the committee in charge of local government audits, because seven years ago the prefecture held an official event at the Tokushima airport to promote tourism and the benefits of its natural landscapes and beaches. Incredibly, what happened here was that for some reason the organization of the event in Japan decided to rent “H dolls” instead of mannequins, dress them in typical costumes of the area and display them at different points of the airport.
This did not stop there, as the audit committee reported that the rental of these “H-dolls” by the local government, at a cost of 400,000 thousand yen per unit, was overpriced by 12,500 yen per unit more than what it would have cost to rent mannequins at the time, and the committee called this action “unethical” as it was an official prefectural event in Japan. In addition, the committee also ordered monetary compensation for the government workers who participated in the “immoral event”.
Evidently, this news has become very popular in social networks and forums in Japan, as several users who were present at the time recalled their experience with this peculiar event. Some commented that they vaguely remembered that these mannequins were something “strange“, and now they know why. Some also commented that there was really nothing wrong with it, since these “H dolls” were dressed, so he didn’t see any problem with it. Although there were users who were annoyed that their taxes were used in this way, while another user commented ironically that this “new strategy” surely paid them back a lot in terms of public relations.
Undoubtedly an anecdote that has caused many and diverse reactions in the eastern nation and one more for this section that we like so much, because it shows us the curious and mysterious side that sometimes only makes sense in Japan, since we are sure that this type of situations could only occur on that side of the world. Tell us in the comments section what you think about this peculiar story and what would you have thought if your local government had used a similar resource in an official event in your town?
