For many years the public that enjoys adult content has been annoyed by the type of censorship that is implemented in Japan to explicit content due to a law that was implemented to prohibit explicitly display this content through mosaics, to which from the beginning there have been complaints about its use, as it can be seen that it is used in magazines, manga and lately it has been reported that it is causing losses to the country on the issue of taxes.
Japan loses money due to censorship of adult content
A Japanese businessman known as Takafumi Horie, who is the founder of Livedoor portal, spoke in a recent video against the use of mosaics as censorship in adult productions, both live-action and animations, which is causing the Asian country to lose money in taxes because Japanese users resort to foreign sites to avoid censorship.
Horie commented that anyone can visit a foreign site where there is adult content easily and avoid censorship, so he questions why even in Japan censorship is still used, even mentioned that there should be no censorship for the good of the economy in Japan, this is because when a user visits an adult site abroad, comes to contribute to the foreign company that distributes this content and pays taxes in their country of origin, while the distribution companies of adult content in Japan lose visits and thus decreases the cost of taxes to be paid.
“The national wealth is bleeding! The tax money that should be coming to us is drying up because of the idiocy of the police. I mean it. I mean, we are all watching videos without the mosaics.” This was Horie’s comment according to his analysis of the current situation in Japan.
But why are censored videos still being shown in Japan today? It turns out that most companies that work creating adult content come to belong to ethical associations, which themselves determine whether or not it is acceptable to show uncensored content and also because the use of censorship fits with the fundamental beliefs of the country, so this situation is very difficult to change from one day to another, although it is intended to divert attention and ignore certain actions that occur in some very daring works due to the use of censorship.
Many people in forums have commented the same as the businessman that currently what sense does it make to implement censorship in this type of content, if at the end of the day people will look for content in any way on a foreign platform and will lose profits due to a law that has not been ratified in quite some time, so several agree that taxes will be lost until the government is willing to change the situation.
In the end, these are laws that the population must respect because there has not been a change in a long time, however, we can find a way to draw attention to this particular issue so that the government takes the importance, including the monetary loss of taxes, and seek a root solution that has the majority of the population happy with these changes, however, for this to happen it may take a long time and a huge effort from the public, so censorship will not leave Japan for a long time.
