The world of waifus is not really like that, a foreign student has confessed somewhat sadly that, on his trip to Japan, he found the truth of the oriental country. The world of animated series, music, video games has shown such a positive and warm face of the Japanese country, but this student found that their society is not the same as their creations. This has been documented by the Japan Student Services Organization, which details more of this event.
Foreign student confesses that living in Japan is disappointing
In a recent interview conducted by the Japan Student Services Organization, aimed at young foreigners residing in the land of the rising sun for study and tourism, many of the interviewees confessed, with one of them standing out for his somber expression, “I came to Japan because I admired anime,” but he immediately confesses, “There are people who are always irritated and I don’t like some people expressing it so directly.” Moe’s dream was not as true as he was painted in school, fantasies can warp the reality of those who run towards them.
Within Japanese forums there are comments that reinforce the student’s words: “You are right that there may be less tolerance or benevolence to others”, “Japanese people are so nice when they travel abroad, living there is a different story”, “In your words you are right, but you should remember that the anime world is just that: the anime world”, “You should understand that people in the real world are more complicated than in the anime series”. They agree that he is right, in the same way that he should put his feet on the ground and understand the real world which is more raw.
Another of the students interviewed by OSEJ mentions that “No matter how many years I have been in Japan, I feel that I will never be integrated into their society.” This demonstrates one of the points that is often talked about Eastern countries, where, taking the Japanese country as an example, people are not as warm as in the West. In addition, we must understand that their cultures are totally different from the ones we know, we can see part of the fantasy created in the Asian country in their recent political campaigns where they use media based on this, something that we have detailed in this note of our page.
In the interview they add a somewhat strong phrase for viewers who love Japanese culture so much, “In Japan there is everything, but among it there is no love”. Presenting the statistic of more than 230,000 students per year, a considerable amount of foreigners who find their reality of the country, according to the OSEJ, the vast majority are students from China who claim to come with good words from the country of the rising sun, but when they come to meet this one, they do not feel so much this. More detailed information can be found in the original Japanese media article from this link.
Sounding like words sentencing the oriental country that has brought us so many masterpieces, could it be as cold as they make it out to be? While Japan has never been known for its warmth like Spanish-speaking countries, most of the criticism of its society comes from the people who, like the American dream, for example, carry hopes and dreams that are not. It is a difficult topic to talk about, as it is something that has been discussed for years. We can only remain supportive of the anime we love so much, we cannot condemn the good things of a place because of these perceptions, which are not denied, but we should not focus our attention on it either.
