In a recent post on the Twitter/X social network, illustrator “@Dokusaichan”, has clearly raised her voice, offering her followers some words about something she has endured for a while, is that, as an illustrator, many ask her about hidden meanings of her designs: colors, accessories, remarkable things, but her answer is a complete stop to these, as it is just a design, but is her attitude right?
Illustrator raises her voice to stop questions about her designs
In her Twitter/X post, “Dokusaichan” firmly exclaims to be fed up with so many questions about her character designs. “What if colors”, “what if accessories that show a hidden side”, “what if a wound or burn”, things that people start to give deep meaning to, for the illustrator they are simple artistic touches, she adds important things, some direct words to her audience.
Character designs are artistic creations that give the best representation of a concept: colors, height, body build, features, personality. Everything must be demonstrated in these designs, but, according to this illustrator, the designs should not be bombarded with deep questions, as most of the elements within these are simple decoration to make the character stand out in her work, like the cover of a magazine, that catches the attention of her readers.
These words have caused many fans to also put their words on the table, opposing these, saying things like, “it’s part of the fans’ imagination”, “You can’t cut off the flow of conspiracies, it’s part of what we fans do”. A direct example of character designs that have stood out in the last year winning the hearts of fans, Bocchi the Rock shows us a new achievement for his characters, crowning himself with a best-selling manga in the world, something we have detailed in depth in this article on our page.
We all know different types of characters that have different elements in their design that can be defined as something related to their history. An example of this is Trunks‘ sword, because at the beginning it is just an object, a weapon, but when we see the history of it (we already know it), we understand that at the beginning it did not have a deep purpose, just something of design, but then it becomes a valuable object. This artist has a point in her favor, since in many moments of the creation of a project, the designs are aesthetic and does not have much history. If you want to follow the thread on this topic, you can do so from here.
On the other hand, there are many characters that have wounds, objects or accessories that more than once surprise us with their background, their story behind, something that is always present in anime with very charismatic casts. Maybe the design should have a background or the background creates the design, but we are also clear that bothering your favorite illustrator asking questions about his designs, some of them without much sense, is not the right thing to do.
