Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the long-awaited sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong, the 2021 film that pitted these classic giant movie monsters against each other. This will also be the fifth installment of the Kaijus cinematic universe known as the “Monsterverse” so there is a ton of speculation about it from fans of both franchises. Luckily, it looks like the new news cycle for this movie has just begun, as Legendary Pictures released the first official posters of the monsters that will star in it, including Godzilla, Kong and the mysterious new opponent that both icons will have to face.
Meet the stars of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
All the new posters for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire were revealed through the film’s various official social networks. In the first one, we can see a bloody handprint with an illustration of a ferocious and intimidating primate. Next to this, there is a text that reads “Bow before your New King.” This is not Kong, but the film’s antagonist, whom we had already seen briefly in the first trailer that was released in April of this year. His name could be Scar King and he is a giant orange-colored ape, similar to an orangutan.
It seems that this antagonist wishes to have some sort of control over Hollow Earth, Kong’s current territory after the events of the previous film. Although we had already seen him in the trailer we previously mentioned, this is our first full look at his face, where we can appreciate the subtle differences between his design and Kong’s. However, we won’t be able to get an idea of what Scar King really looks like until the first Godzilla x Kong trailer is released.
On the other hand, then the 2 posters of the main characters of the movie were revealed: Godzilla and Kong. Beyond the quality of these incredible illustrations, it seems that both will present similar designs to the ones they had in Godzilla vs. Kong, although we wouldn’t be surprised if they have some slight changes. The text reads “Unite 2024” in reference to the fact that both monsters will have to join forces in order to defeat Scar King. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters worldwide on April 12, 2024.
These official posters were an excellent surprise, but the best part is that we won’t have to wait long for a new Godzilla x Kong trailer, as one will be unveiled next weekend at the CCXP trade show in Brazil. Between the news of this anticipated movie, the release of the Japanese film Godzilla Minus One and the airing of the TV series Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters (which is also part of the Monvsterverse) this is a great time for fans of the King of the Monsters.
