After 5 years since its last installment, the popular Gears of War franchise returned today with an exciting announcement. It’s none other than Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel starring Marcus Phoenix and Dominic Santiago that has the potential to be a really dark and intense adventure You have to check out this trailer!
Experience Emergency Day in Gears of War: E-Day
This unexpected, but more than welcome, announcement was made during the Xbox Games Showcase presentation that was broadcast today. In this reveal trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, we can see a young Marcus Phoenix – the main protagonist of the series – fighting an enemy Locust in an abandoned house. Their fight is violent and intense, and Marcus struggles to emerge victorious. Luckily, he is saved at the last moment by his faithful friend Dominic Santiago and they both turn around to see a city completely destroyed by the Locust Horde invasion.
As the title implies, Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel that takes place during Emergence Day, which is one of the most important events in the plot of this franchise. It is the moment when the Locust Horde started its lethal assault on Earth, so it is basically the starting point of the whole long-lived and intense story. Although many players were left wanting to know what will happen after the events that occurred in Gears 5, the truth is that the concept of being able to live this fateful day while controlling Marcus and Dom is really promising.
The trailer seems to have been designed specifically to attract the attention of fans who had abandoned Gears of War after the departure of its most iconic characters. Marcus and Dom look great in this new graphical style and the best part is that they will look just as good in-game, as this trailer was built with Unreal Engine 5, just like the rest of the title. We are also excited to hear some notes of the song “Mad World” when Dom takes Marcus by the hand, in reference to the classic trailer of the first game that was released in 2011.
Although we haven’t had a chance to see any of the gameplay yet, Gears of War: E-Day looks great and has the potential to be the long-awaited return of this iconic Xbox franchise. This title is being developed by The Coalition and will be available for PC and Xbox Series X/S, but, unfortunately, there is still no official release date. What did you think of this announcement? Do you think this prequel will be to the liking of Gears fans?
