Since 2013, Final Fantasy XIV continues to do justice to its title as one of the best and most popular MMORPGs in the entire gaming industry. That’s why, even 10 years after the release of A Realm Reborn, Square Enix continues to release new updates that add even more content to this game.
The Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023 took place in London this weekend, where producer Yoshi-P revealed a lot of new information about the future of the MMORPG, including two unexpected but amazing collaborations with two other games: Fall Guys and Final Fantasy XVI.
Final Fantasy XIV and Fall Guys team up for this colorful event
While this isn’t the first time Final Fantasy XIV and Fall Guys have joined forces, this new event is something completely different, and it looks like a lot of fun. This time, groups of up to 24 players will be dropped into a huge obstacle course taken from Fall Guys, full of traps, platforms and gaping holes. MMORPG players must traverse the level and evade all of these obstacles until they reach the end, where the first to finish will be crowned the winner.
This sounds just like Fall Guys, but the difference is that Final Fantasy XIV is a role-playing game and the character controls are not designed for risky platforming like this, so it will be a chaotic experience for inexperienced players. Yoshi-P clarified that this new mode will not be available forever and will have limited access to maintain a balance between the two games. Luckily, the mini-game will also have its own Fall Guys themed rewards for those who participate and win, so you won’t want to miss out.
This Fall Guys collaboration will be coming to Final Fantasy XIV in its 6.51 patch, which will be available starting October 31.
Final Fantasy XIV will also cross over with the most recent installment of the franchise
Since the initial release of Final Fantasy XVI in June of this year that fans of the franchise were begging for a crossover event with Final Fantasy XIV. That’s why the audience rejoiced with happiness when Yoshi-P confirmed that the two games will crossover very soon. In the special mission “The Infernal Path“, players will be able to join forces with protagonist Clive Rosfield to defeat the mighty Ifrit together, in an epic but challenging boss fight. Those who can defeat him will be able to collect items based on Final Fantasy XVI.
But the part of this announcement that drove the Fan Festival 2023 crowd crazy was the confirmation that Torgal, Clive’s lovable and loyal wolf companion in FFXVI, will also be coming to Final Fantasy XIV in the form of a special themed mount. And as if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also be able to get an adorable chibi version of the canine as a pet. If you’re interested in trying out this mission, but haven’t played Final Fantasy XVI yet, you shouldn’t worry because Yoshi-P confirmed that it was written in such a way that it won’t reveal any major spoilers from the new game.
Although we still don’t have a concrete release date for the arrival of “The Infernal Path”, it was confirmed that it will be within the 6.5x number patches, so it will surely be released a few months after the Fall Guys event.
It’s really amazing how Square Enix manages to keep this popular MMORPG alive after so long, through amazing events and collaborations like these that appeal to both Final Fantasy fans and fans of other popular titles. If you’re a returning Final Fantasy XIV player, or haven’t touched the game in months, the upcoming 6.51 update is the perfect time to re-enter this fantastic world full of things to do.
