The “Fate/Stay NIght” saga is one of the most valued and appreciated anime sagas by otaku, because its plot, its visuals and the curious story of how this franchise started are the reasons for its activating aura. But it is also one of the most complex series for newcomers to this world, as its large number of spin-offs, games and derivative stories make it very difficult to start for some. This time we will remember that time when the saga caused so much hype that it translated into thousands of dollars in sales for some lucky fans.
When the hype for “Fate/Stay Night” translated into thousands of dollars for fans!
It was the year 2019 and in Japan was released nothing more and nothing less than “Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Fell II. Lost Butterfly“, the second film of Stay Night: Heave’s Feel, and the one that adapted the third and final route of its homonymous visual novel. As expected in the country, this premiere came full of hype, fervor and high expectations, so the organizers, in select cinemas, decided to present fans with a small souvenir of the film. These were 35 mm film style strips with some frames from the movie.
These “Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Fell II” strips showed some moments from the film and were chosen randomly, but it was evident that some had more impact and popularity than others. It was here where it happened some time after these posters were delivered, that various publications on Yahoo Auctions (Yahoo’s auction site in Japan) started to appear with these strips for sale and with a surprising price. Fans had something very valuable in their hands.
The prices of the most valuable strips for the fans ranged from 2700 dollars to 900 dollars, crazy without a doubt, in this section who stood out the most was “Sakura” whose strips were sold at the highest prices, either for her charisma or “personality”, since the strip where she appears intimately showing us her attributes was priced at 2,685 US dollars with a total of 145 bidders trying to get it. “Archer” was also one of the most sought after by fans, as his strips in “Fate/Stay Night” hovered around $900.
Unfortunately, not all were jaw-dropping prices, as “Shinji” strips went for as little as $5 with a top price of $27. This made it clear once again that the “Fate” saga was at its peak, something that now that 5 years have passed since that movie produced by UFOTABLE was released, seems not to have changed at all, as this series is still one of the most beloved by the otaku of this saga of visual novels, and this is one of the most particular anecdotes that an anime production can have.
Undoubtedly, this is one of those times when anime as an industry has come to rival and surpass what Hollywood has done. An anecdote that lets us see that both the “Fate/Stay NIght” saga and anime in general have a very passionate audience that does not hesitate for a moment to support their favorite franchise. So tell us in the comments what you think of this anecdote of the saga, and if in the future these strips are released again, if you had the chance, would you buy any of them?
