Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima’s masterpiece, is undoubtedly one of the most popular shonen manga & anime around the world. Its success led Koei Tecmo and Gust to develop a huge open-world RPG based on this story, which was quite well received by fans. Now, almost 4 years after its initial release, Koei Tecmo has just surprised everyone with the announcement of a sequel that looks like a lot of fun.
Fairy Tail 2 coming soon to consoles
To everyone’s surprise, this sequel was revealed during the most recent Nintendo Direct. Fairy Tail 2 is the new video game based on the popular manga and will retell the events of The Alvarez Empire Saga, in which Natsu must face his older brother Zeref and the rest of his empire, with the help of all his friends from the Fairy Tail guild. This is one of the fans’ favorite plot arcs, so this video game has the potential to have a really interesting plot, if they manage to replicate the events of the original manga in an efficient way. Luckily, the talented developers at Gust (known for the Atelier saga) returned to create this excellent sequel.
Fairy Tail 2 will take place entirely in the realm of Fiore, which will give players the opportunity to explore a completely new world, full of creatures, enemies, items and side quests. They will once again take control of Natsu, but will also be able to play as some of his companions outside of combat, such as Wendy Marvell or Juvia Lockser. But of course, the most striking part of this videogame will be its intense battles, which will have a combat system similar to the previous release.
Fairy Tail 2’s combat will be turn-based, and the player will have many different character options and attacks to choose from. Different members of the Fairy Tail guild will even be able to team up to perform amazing attacks combined with dazzling animation. The action looks great and we can’t wait to engage in intense fights against members of the Alvarez Empire. It’s also worth noting that the graphics in this game look excellent, even better than its predecessor, and it really looks like it came out of the anime it was inspired by.
Despite being revealed during a Nintendo Direct, Fairy Tail 2 will not be exclusive to Nintendo Switch, as it will also be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC, through Steam. Koei Tecmo has not yet announced an official release date, but they confirmed that it will be out during this year’s winter season. It looks like this anticipated RPG will arrive for the upcoming holidays, so we won’t have to wait long to play it.
