It’s time to share our review of Dumb Money, a movie that will premiere tomorrow, but thanks to the invitation from Sony Pictures we had the chance to watch it ahead of time and the truth is that it was a different experience from the movies we are used to seeing lately, so if you want to see something different from what is being shown in the cinema this is a very good option to have a good time, but for now we will tell you what the movie is about.
Visual of Dumb Money
Dumb Money is the great battle of David against Goliath, based on the incredible and true story of ordinary people who changed the course of Wall Street and became rich by turning GameStop (the video game store) into one of the most valuable companies in the stock market. In the middle of it all was Keith Gill (Paul Dano), a common man, who started it all when he bet his life savings on the stock and posted about it. When his posts start to explode, so does his life and that of his followers. As the stock becomes a movement – until the billionaires try to fight back, turning both sides upside down.
Dumb Money basically tells us the story of one of the most surreal moments that the internet and Wall Street have experienced, as a Youtuber who was little known at that time named Keith Gill (Roaring Kitty) became popular among internet users for inspiring people to buy GameStop shares, who in 2020 was in its worst financial crisis due to the consequences of COVID-19, so it almost went bankrupt, however, this changed when Keith Gill inspired thousands of people to buy shares and managed to make Wall Street people nervous.
This movie could be considered as a biographical movie of Keith Gill about how he went through the whole process from analyzing the economic environment that was lived at that time, to how he became an inspiration for thousands of people who followed his actions closely and who in a way managed to change their lives after this incredible event.
We also have to mention that Dumb Money shows us another aspect of what was affected by the pandemic, the feelings of people who lost someone during this moment, the difficulties that people had to find a job and how those who were on the front line facing this crisis were not rewarded as they deserved, without a doubt, this movie also shows us this side of the people who were affected and those who put their last hopes on this risky bet to try to improve their lives.
As Dumb Money is an event that happened in real life, many who followed this case when it happened will know the outcome of this story in advance, but despite this the same story absorbs you as the plot progresses and even though you already know what will happen at the end you still wonder what will happen to Keith Gill and all the people who were his followers and who had their money invested in what at first seemed like a bad financial decision. We have to mention that although it deals with economic issues, they narrate it in a way that is easy to understand, so anyone can enjoy it.
