Dead Space

Director of Until Dawn has Dead Space in his sights as his next adaptation

Horror is one of the genres in any industry that people enjoy the most and has been represented in many ways especially in the world of video games, where we find in a very special place the immersive stories known as “movie games” as the case of Until Dawn that earned an adaptation to the big screen. Once the details were finalized, David F. Sandberg, the director, made a shocking statement, where he revealed that his next goal is to adapt Dead Space as it has never been seen before.

Director of Until Dawn’s next target for galactic horror: Dead Space

Little can we say about Until Dawn, since the video game is essentially a movie, however, it was not available to everyone both in 2015 and in its re-release in 2024: an immersive story with multiple routes and endings where we meet a small group of young people “celebrating” an anniversary of the death of the sisters of a member. What begins as a not very nice and too heavy joke by a member ends in a fateful discovery, because the group was never alone and the ultimate goal will be to survive “Until dawn”.

This video game or “movie game” has already been adapted into a live-action movie and the first trailer was released in recent weeks, both fans of the title, as well as moviegoers and participating staff are looking forward to its release, however, director David F. Sandberg already has his sights set on his next project, which is another live-action. This time Sandberg, who has a decent track record in his repertoire, has his sights set on a classic Electronic Arts horror title released in the last decade and also re-released for next-gen consoles: Dead Space.

Until Dawn Terror

Although the maximum reference of galactic horror movies is the Alien saga together with the Predator franchise, which have even had movies together for their greatness, there is no other icon of the stellar terrain that can be clearly mentioned. Famous films set in space are countless, and to sum it all up is George Lucas’ legendary Star Wars franchise. Star Wars quickly spread into the comic book industry, toys and of course video games, present in almost every genre.

Dead Space seems impossible to adapt to the big screen unlike Until Dawn that yes, it is a challenge because of the mythical creature that appears in the climax of the game. In the trilogy and later remake of Isaac Clarke’s story, there is only a small group of humans in a giant spaceship plagued by creepy alien creatures, the goal is to get rid of each one by managing resources or using stealth and the ultimate goal is to get out of the spaceship alive.

The adaptation of the Electronic Arts classic is a challenge not only for David F. Sandberg, who has also directed Lights Out (2013), the prequel to Annabelle (2013), Annabelle: Creation (2017) and DC Shazam! (2019) pending the adaptation of the Supermassive Games game, which is also a PlayStation 4 and 5 exclusive: Until Dawn (2025). The director stated for the official media outlet Collider the following:

“Sci-fi is what I’ve always wanted to make, but I couldn’t. Sci-fi horror would be spectacular. A world similar to Event Horizon or Dead Space”.

Until Dawn does not have an exact date for its release, although those who played the title, either for PlayStation 4 or 5 will be eager to attend its release and know the routes and end that the director decided to give to each of the protagonists of the game.
