This June 4, Destiny has released its latest DLC called “The Final Form“. This storyline installment of the game is much more than just a DLC, it is an expansion that Destiny 2 truly deserves.
Destiny 2: The Final Form the best DLC in the series
There is no doubt that many players have invested thousands of hours in the science fantasy shooter over the years. With The Final Shape, expectations were sky high and there was great pressure to deliver a storyline that did justice to all the characters. For this reason, Bungie took a bit longer to release this DLC, as the last installment, called Lightfall, was somewhat disappointing for players. The company went to great lengths to improve and exceed expectations to ensure that The Final Form met the demands and desires of its dedicated community of players.
Destiny 2’s story is extremely extensive and is filled with numerous expansions that have shaped what we know today. The Final Form begins with our Guardian, the fan-favorite Raven, and the remaining leaders of the Vanguard, Zavala and Ikora Rey, heading to the Traveler’s Pale Heart through the doorway cut by the Witness. What awaits them is a beautiful and twisted world, composed of abstract memories and long-forgotten places.
The world changes radically as you progress, presenting wonderful visual variety while maintaining Bungie’s signature open battlefields. This type of design is the same that made the original Halo: Combat Evolved what it is today. Your quest for the Witness brings you back into contact with the legendary Hunter Cayde-6, whose resurrection is explained a bit clumsily, but whose presence is welcome at levels that are difficult for a Destiny fan to articulate.
In addition to the main plot, The Final Form introduces new gameplay mechanics and challenges, keeping players engaged and offering a fresh and exciting experience. Bungie has succeeded in creating an expansion that not only adds significant content, but also revitalizes the Destiny universe, ensuring that both veteran and new players will enjoy it to the fullest.
The choice to focus on the main leaders of the Vanguard, the three mentors who have been with us since the beginning, as well as Crow, the guardian who in his previous life was Uldren Sov, Cayde’s assassin, allows Bungie to tell a much more personal story.
The campaign itself is excellent, especially depending on the difficulty level you choose with your team. Many fights take place in huge open areas, which really makes a difference. This allows you to attack from cover at a considerable distance and, if necessary, make a frantic run back into a forest to hide for a bit and regain your health.
In this new Destiny 2 DLC, the love and dedication that has gone into it shows, with details such as bridges made of clutching hands and walls formed by contorted faces in agony. Destiny fans will recognize many of the locations, having been taken from previous iterations of the game. Long-forgotten mission areas, the original tower, discarded Crucible maps and planet levels that no longer exist return, providing a nostalgic experience for long-time players.
At the beginning of the campaign, you unlock a new class called Prismatic. This is not a completely new super class, but a way to mix and match skills from the five existing super classes to create your own custom class. This means that abilities that were previously class-specific can now be shared. For example, my Titan could have a Super Solar, Strand grenades and the ability to dodge instead of using a barricade.
The inclusion of the Prismatic class adds an additional layer of strategy and customization to the game, allowing players to experiment and adapt their play style in innovative ways. In addition, the campaign offers challenges and missions that take full advantage of these new abilities, providing a fresh and dynamic experience. Bungie has managed to not only expand Destiny’s universe, but also revitalize it, ensuring that both veteran and new players alike will find something exciting and engaging in The Final Form.
Should I play Destiny 2: The Final Form?
Whether you’ve been with Destiny since the beginning, have had long breaks between expansions, or are new to it all, The Final Shape campaign is excellent. However, for longtime fans, it’s one of the best expansions Bungie has ever produced. This leaves the question as to whether the upcoming episodes, which will replace seasons as the new storytelling and update format for the game, will be on par with this great expansion.
