Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

We tried the demo of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven and it is incredible

Romancing SaGa 2 is one of the SQ games with an incredible legacy, which of course in its time was not as popular as FINAL FANTASY could be said to have been able to cope. Originally, the game was released in 1993 at the time when SQ was only called Square Software, now many years later the great SQ decided to give a new life to the game by releasing a remake of the game under the title Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, which we already tested and we will tell you what fascinated us.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is extremely wonderful

The Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven demo we tested tells the story of a king and the disastrous events that took place in his kingdom. The players, that is us, will control the Lion King, his son Gerard and three royal knights as they train Gerard, which is literally the tutorial, which we recommend paying close attention to.

However, this training is interrupted, due to the fact that they must face a powerful enemy that brings ruin to their city. This turn of events is super-dramatic and very touching, and the way this magical world is portrayed promises a world worth exploring from place to place and certainly a story with very touching moments.

The game demo gives us access to the castle and two other dungeons in the first few hours of gameplay, showing the structure of the game and how the story is divided. These dungeons have treasures that are easy to overlook if players are not careful, so I say keep an eye out, however, an easy to use map is provided to help players who want to explore every nook and cranny in search of all the items.

There is a world map that allows players to instantly travel from one place of interest to another, making it easy to know where to go. There are save points in strategic dungeon areas, which we appreciate a lot, and recovery locations that allow players to fully heal before taking on bosses.

The gameplay of the game is like many SQ’s, yes it is turn based, but that makes it super special, players will face varied enemies and each character has abilities that depend on the weapons and elemental spells they have equipped. Enemies are weak to different types of weapons or elemental spells, and the UI displays this information once the weakness has been detected.

Of course, there are powerful strikes called overdrive skills, whose gauge fills up as players exploit enemies’ weaknesses. This gauge is shared by the entire party and each character has a different overdrive skill, making it an interesting strategic choice who unleashes their skill. It is rewarding to learn to choose skills wisely to fill the overdrive gauge and then unleash a skill to cause massive damage, so good luck with your skills boys and girls.

Similarly, the skills used during each battle also have a consequence on character growth, as elemental spells and weapons used in battle gain technique points at the end of each fight. As there are several types of weapons, players can choose how they want their party to develop, either by focusing on a specific weapon or by varying the way they finish off enemies to have a balanced growth.

We can’t lie to you that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is visually beautiful, it doesn’t have the graphics you say, uff it looks super realistic, but seeing the pixel change from its original version to a well done modern model is certainly gratifying. The characters are eye-catching and were gracefully redesigned in this remake. The enemy designs are super cool and the dungeons are very interesting, as well as having attractive backgrounds. The game includes voice acting that adds a welcome impact to the dialogue, but I recommend you put it in Japanese audio, personally this type of game does not suit English voices.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven will arrive on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch and PS4/PS5 consoles on October 24, 2024, reserve your copy now at the official stores of the supported platforms.
