Date a Live: Detective Kurumi is very close to coming to Japan
“It should be noted that the light novel ‘Magic Detective Kurumi Tokisaki’s Case Files‘ will be handled by Koushi Tachibana and Tsunako, the author and illustrator of the original light novel ‘Date a Live’. An illustration that will be included in this volume has been unveiled on the official website of the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint. Previously, the synopsis of this new light novel in the Date a Live franchise was presented:
Now, let’s begin our deductions!
Kurumi Tokizaki, a university student and detective specializing in crimes involving magic artifacts. A ‘magic bullet’ fired from an untraceable location. A massive coma caused by a ‘living doll’. Kurumi’s time for deduction runs out in the face of mysterious cases that defy common sense.
“Date a Live” is a light novel that fuses elements of romantic comedy, harem and fantasy, created by Koushi Tachibana and visually developed by Tsunako. This captivating work saw the light of day in March 2011 under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint of Fujimi Shobo Publishing House, and concluded publication in March 2020.
In addition, the story was adapted to manga format, with illustrations by Ringo. The serialization of this manga began in April 2012, but unfortunately, due to health problems of the illustrator, it was interrupted after only six chapters.
The “Date a Live” franchise transports us to a reality altered by cosmic events that have left an indelible mark on human history. Three decades ago, a cataclysm known as the “space earthquake” shook the Eurasian continent, claiming the lives of millions and generating mysterious vibrations that still reverberate in the present. Although the space earthquakes that continue to occur are less devastating in magnitude, they persist as a constant reminder of the fragility of human existence.
In the midst of this chaos, we follow in the footsteps of Shidou Itsuka, a high school student whose seemingly ordinary life takes an unexpected turn. When a space earthquake threatens the city of Tengu, Shidou bravely springs into action, only to be caught in an explosion that changes his destiny forever. At that precise moment, his path crosses that of an enigmatic young woman, triggering a series of events that will introduce him to a hidden world full of dangers.
It turns out that this mysterious girl is a “Spirit,” an entity from an unknown plane whose mere presence triggers the dreaded space earthquakes. As Shidou delves deeper into this enigma, he is drawn into a conflict of cosmic proportions. On the one hand, the Anti-Spirit Team seeks the relentless elimination of these entities, considered a threat. On the other hand, a third group called “Ratatoskr”, led by Shidou’s younger sister, Kotori, believes in the redemption of the Spirits and proposes a daring alternative: to make them fall in love.
This is how our protagonist finds himself in a unique and challenging situation: he must face a race against time to win the hearts of these enigmatic entities and thus prevent catastrophic disasters. The plot unfolds with unexpected twists and turns, intense emotions and comical situations, as Shidou embarks on peculiar dates and adventures in pursuit of a mission that could save both the Spirits and the entire world.
