Brendan O’Brien, a voice actor and dubber, known for being the original voice of Crash Bandicoot, has passed away at the age of 60, leaving us with a great example of character creation.
Brendan O’Brien leaves behind a remarkable characterisation with Crash Bandicoot
The sad news was announced by Tony Grayson, developer of the video game Antonblast, through a tweet mourning the performer and accompanying it with a photo. This was not the only tribute to Brendan O’Brien that they have made on the internet, they also dedicated the following text to him:
“One of his proudest moments was providing the original voices for the Crash Bandicoot video games during Naughty Dog’s years, from 1996 to 2004. He encouraged nostalgic Crash fans on their own adventures and loved signing their memories. Just like music, designing character voices for animation, radio and video games came naturally to him.”
Brendan O’Brien did an excellent job portraying such a peculiar character as Crash Bandicoot, who, unlike other characters in the saga, communicates through small noises or isolated words, being the most characteristic, the “Woah” of the character. Without Brendan O’Brien, Crash would not have been the same since his first appearance on Playstation 1.
The interpreter and dubber also did a wonderful job giving voice to Doctor Neo Cortex and Tiny Tiger, enemies of Crash in the saga, showing his skills working with such different characters.
The ANMO Sugoi team regrets his loss and sends strength to his family and friends.
