Fans of the anime were able to purchase a maid at an auction held at “MaidLand” event in Guatemala.
In Guatemala, an event known as “MaidLand” took place, in which a curious event took place: a “maid auction”, which as the name says, several girls participated so that people from the public could bid and the person who offered the most money would win the auction, having the opportunity to spend a whole day with the maid of their choice.
The influencer rafabaras through his Instagram profile, tells us that he attended this event and as it caused him quite intrigued, he decided to interview the person who paid the most money to acquire one of the maids. This guy’s name is Alejandro and, according to what he tells that he won the auction with an amount of $77.60 dollars. He also commented that he did not know what activities he would do with this maid named “Centauro”, that they would probably go for lunch and spend a quiet day.
Clearly, anime fans immediately expressed their opinions about this event and there were all kinds of comments, both good and many people complaining that this kind of thing was embarrassing and that it was exactly the reason why people disliked otaku. Likewise, many people commented that the price this guy paid for the maid was quite expensive and with that money they could use it to buy other things.
On the other hand, many people defended this by saying that the comments were very aggressive, that this looked like something fun, plus the maids are girls who serve you with respect and kindness, so being treated this way for a day even if it was basically a performance, could be comforting. Another thing that was commented in defense of this event is that, in Japan, this was something quite normal, that in this country, you could even rent brides or even have the famous “maid cafe” that many local people and tourists commonly visit.
Another quite curious thing, is that a user made a comment where he said that there had been an even more expensive auction, where approximately double the money was paid, that is, approximately 155 dollars, which also surprised the other people by the amount that was paid during this other event, just to be able to spend a day with one of these girls.
Basically, these were both negative and positive comments that were generated on the internet as a result of this event that took place in Guatemala, which was organized by Usagi Maid Cafegt, and not only had this auction, but it was also full of various activities such as national and international guests, karaoke, cosplays, contests and prizes, sale of food and anime items, k-pop, video games, among others.
