CONCORD closes servers few weeks after launching

One of the video games that Firewalk Studios developers brought to life: CONCORD, a first-person shooter and online multiplayer PVP, closed its servers on September 6 after only 2 weeks of being released. This game was one of the big bets of the Sony PlayStation 5, as its development took almost a decade, but Sony’s decisions and the general outlook of the game was not to the liking of most PS5 users who expressed their rejection to the point of leading to its imminent closure.

CONCORD was created by developers Firewalk Studios, which took them 8 years to launch this online multiplayer FPS, but despite having impressive graphics worthy of next-generation consoles lovers of this genre noticed a problem almost immediately: Sony’s ambitious new release would be a game as a service, which was one of the first nails in the coffin for CONCORD who would launch their game in mid-August of this 2024.

In essence, the gameplay was not bad, and the mechanics of the video game were really easy, however, since before the launch it was confirmed that the Firewalk Studios title would be a game as a service. In addition to having an estimated price of 40 dollars (approximately 800 Mexican pesos) characters, weapons, scenarios or future battle passes would have certain costs, and for those familiar with Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Valorant, Overwatch 2 among others, this type of acquisitions have a somewhat high cost.

Until before its release, CONCORD had not proven to be at the height of the most popular games as services such as Fortnite or Warzone, as they had not made enough merits. Its characters were not interesting enough despite having graphics that squeezed the PlayStation 5 to its full potential, betas dates arrived and although they were a failure, the staff of Firewalk Studios relied on their nearly 10 year old title to finally launch CONCORD on August 23, 2024.

From its launch until its server shutdown last September 6, CONCORD had problems, not in the gameplay, since it had plenty of fun, but in the unattractive characters: only a couple of them were interesting. In the almost two weeks of existence of this multiplayer game, it is estimated that only 25,000 copies were sold and that each person who bought it will be refunded both in physical and digital format. CONCORD has only closed servers and will most likely return as a Free To Play with much more interesting characters, but that does not free CONCORD from being the biggest failure in the history of videogames.
