It’s no surprise that “Chainsaw Man” had a mixed reception, reaching “bad” with fans in Japan and many otaku in the west, where the anime was better received, blame MAPPA and Ryu Nakayama’s direction of the project for this situation. While this is very debatable, and it depends on who you ask, it is clear that for its former director his time at MAPPA is over and he has announced a new project that will undoubtedly generate many expectations for the future of animation.
Ryu Nakayama, former director of “Chainsaw Man” surprises otaku by announcing the birth of “Andraft Studio”.
Through a post on X formerly known as Twitter, Ryu Nakayama former director of “Chainsaw Man” has announced to his followers that he has founded a new studio called “Andraft Co., Ltd.” thus confirming his break with MAPPA and closing the door to a new project of Denji’s story with his direction. Something that with the lukewarm acceptance of the work in Japan it was rumored that Ryu would not be directing the new sequel already announced in the form of a feature film.
The director shared the following message: “I am pleased to announce the establishment of Andraft Co., Ltd. Our goal is to establish a better animation production system and offer high quality works to a global audience. We will challenge various genres without discrimination and strive to explore new possibilities. Your support is greatly appreciated!”. He also shared the link to the new studio’s website, where you can see the new logo and relevant information.
On the official website of the new studio of the former director of “Chainsaw Man” we see that the newly founded animation studio is looking for new staff in which the positions of “Animator (Key Animation/In-between Animation)/Animation Supervisor/Director”, “Background Artist/Art Director/Visual Developer”, “Producer and Production Manager” stand out. So we see that this new project of Ryu Nakayama is starting to set new goals.
Upon this announcement, fans wished the director the best of luck and were excited about this new studio joining the industry, hoping that their addition can contribute to bringing new and exciting works to the industry. Another sector also commented that this could be due to the fact that MAPPA manages a lousy work culture, which is why the former director of “Chainsaw Man” opted to found a new project to get out of this toxic work environment that characterizes him.
However, there is also a sector that said that Nakayama was actually fired because “Chainsaw Man” did not meet the expectations for MAPPA. Be that as it may, this is great news for anime fans, since a new studio also opens new possibilities to see new animated works and with Ryu Nakayama’s experience, we are sure that soon we will hear news from “Andraft Studio” and its new project, so we just have to be patient to enjoy new stories from the hand of the newly founded Japanese studio.
