We all know that Activision Blizzard releases a new Call of Duty installment every year, but fans are expecting the 2024 game to be something really special. We already knew they would be continuing Treyarch’s legendary saga this year when Black Ops 6 was officially revealed, but during today’s Xbox Games Showcase presentation we got our first big look at this intriguing new title.
What can we expect from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6?
Today’s Xbox Games Showcase 2024 opened with this amazing trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and then they dedicated their own separate presentation to it. We got to see a bunch of interesting clips of this game’s plot, with some footage of its exciting combat. The campaign follows the events of Cold War (the 2020 title that would become Black Ops 5) and tells the story of the new Black Ops 6 led by Russel Adler during the Gulf War, who are in hiding and will be constantly hunted from within. This campaign promises to be the next big step in the franchise, with new mechanics such as dialogue trees and different ways to complete missions.
You can tell that, as always, Activision Blizzard is using all the budget, time and resources possible to make the campaign of this new Call of Duty something truly epic and unbridled, as if it were a Hollywood movie. Everything we could see in this trailer looks great (especially thanks to the use of real images of historical figures of the time) but fans only have one concern: Will it last more than 3 hours? After all, that was the most criticized aspect of the 2023: Modern Warfare 3 installment. Luckily, Black Ops 6’s campaign looks to be longer than that.
And that’s not all because, as expected, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 comes with other fun modes that we’ll be able to enjoy. Previously, information was already revealed about Zombies Mode, which will once again have a round format as in the classic installments. It will follow the story of Dr. Peck after the events of Cold War and you will be able to control 4 different operators in 2 maps that will be available from launch: Liberty Falls and Terminus. Although, knowing this franchise, we know that new maps will be added in the near future.
Finally, there is the main reason why many people buy a Call of Duty title: The Multiplayer Mode. It will have 12 new huge 6 player vs. 6 player maps and it looks like it will keep the essence of the classic gameplay of the franchise, although it will also include some new mechanics to make things more interesting, like the omnidirectional movement that will give you much more mobility on the battlefield. On top of that, we can expect new weapons, vehicles, maps and much more.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC starting next October 25. What did you think about this announcement? Do you think Black Ops 6 will help redeem this franchise?
