There is a Live Action movie based on Borderlands that has been in development for several years. After the cast of actors who will play the main characters was announced, a long time passed without any updates. But the wait is just over, as today the first images from the movie were revealed, including several big-name actors dressed up as the iconic characters from Gearbox Software’s game.
Our first look at the Borderlands film
People magazine revealed these exclusive images of the cast of Borderlands in character, and they look surprisingly good. This one consists of Cate Blanchett (known for Tár and Thor: Ragnarok) as Lilith, Kevin Hart (known for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis (known for the Halloween saga) as Patricia Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt (known for Barbie) as Tiny Tina and Florian Munteanu (known for Creed) as Krieg. In addition to all this, there is also the participation of Jack Black (known for Super Mario Bros, Tenacious D and much more) as the voice of the friendly robot, Claptrap.
Borderlands is an absurd and colorful video game, with a lot of humor. So it’s important that the film can maintain the essence of the original title. Luckily, these interpretations of the characters look pretty faithful to their source material. Based on these images, it’s clear that Lilith will be the star of the film, and luckily Cate Blanchett is a talented actress who is sure to give a fun performance. The entire cast looks great, but the only one who hasn’t quite won fans over is Kevin Hart as Roland. The comedian is known for his short stature and unserious roles, while Roland is a huge and more serious character.
On the other hand, the decision to keep Claptrap as a character made entirely with CGI, but with the voice of such a charismatic actor as Jack Black was really ingenious. This is a loaded cast and they possess the potential to make for a very fun and chaotic movie. Borderlands was directed by Eli Roth, a director known for his trademark over-the-top and violent style, as seen in his work on Hostel or Thanksgiving. If he applied this same style to this film, it could result in something really special. However, we won’t be able to know for sure until we see it for ourselves.
Luckily we won’t have to wait much longer, because the Borderlands Live Action movie will be available in theaters starting August 9, 2024. And if you want to know more about it, they have already announced that tomorrow they will release the first trailer. Lately, movies based on videogames are doing very well (as already happened with Super Mario Bros, Sonic The Hedgehog and Five Nights at Freddy’s) so in a few months we will see if Borderlands will also join the list of successes.
