BORDERLANDS 3 ULTIMATE EDITION SWITCH VS PS5 PORTADA

Borderlands 3: Comparing graphics between Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5

2K Games and Gearbox Entertainment have just released Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch. This announcement was especially surprising, since the original title had been launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, when the Switch had been on the market for at least two years. Even when the third installment of the Borderlands saga was ported to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 in 2020, they decided to skip the Nintendo console. But now we have a port for the Nintendo Switch, under the subtitle Ultimate Edition. Why did they take so long to release this version? Let’s compare the graphics with the PlayStation 5 version to get an answer.

Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition: Nintendo Switch vs. PlayStation 5

BORDERLANDS 3 SWITCH VS PS5

In this video posted by the GameXPlain channel, we can see the graphics of Borderlands 3 on Nintendo Switch and on PlayStation 5, comparing the introduction and the initial area of the acclaimed game. The final verdict? We are totally impressed! For a platform of lower power, the Nintendo Switch can run this title flawlessly. To begin with, the graphics look almost identical in both versions. The cartoonish art style of Borderlands definitely translates very well to the hybrid platform of Nintendo. It is ideal that they did not seek a hyperrealistic style, as it would look worse on this console.

The only major difference between both versions of Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition is the performance. In the video, you can notice that the PlayStation 5 version runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, while the Switch version has a bit of lag. Specifically, there are reports that it runs at 30 frames per second, but that it increases to 40 fps in some moments of more action. However, this is a compromise that most players will be willing to accept, in order to be able to take this excellent first-person shooter everywhere.

BORDERLANDS 3 SWITCH VS PS5 2

Of course, the graphics of Nintendo Switch are somewhat blurred, and it runs a little slower, but the truth is that it still looks impressive. Here we have our answer: 2K Games and Gearbox took almost 4 years to port Borderlands 3 on Nintendo Switch to make sure they could create a version that does justice to the title and that users of this platform can enjoy without problems. It is really amazing what developers can achieve when they take their time to make ports like this.

Borderlands 3: Ultimate Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch and includes all the DLC of the game. If you are a fan of this franchise, but you have not tried the third installment yet, maybe the Switch version is a good place to start, as it is completely portable, it looks pretty good and comes with a lot of content. On the other hand, if graphics and performance are very important to you, the versions of Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 are also a good choice.
