Undoubtedly Bocchi The Rock! has become one of the successes in the world of anime in recent years, obtaining a large number of fans who nourish the internet with their works of all kinds, from the classic illustrations, such as cosplays that bring to our world to the beloved characters. But in recent hours, a new controversy has been generated by one of these works, in this case an illustration of the protagonist, Bocchi, but where the artist decided to change the ethnicity of the young guitarist, so the comments against this did not take long to be present.

Through his Twitter/X account, the artist known as @IronicnotSavage shared a few days ago his latest work, which stars the beloved Hitori Gotō from Bocchi the Rock! and generated a wave of comments since its publication, since he decided to give a radical change to the girl that did not please many. In this case it is about the transformation of Bocchi’s appearance, which changes her ethnicity to be of dark complexion and with a different type of hair to how she is really known.

As you can see in the image, this recreates one of the many that exist of the protagonist of Bocchi the Rock, but as you can see, the change in the appearance of the girl is more than evident, with a dark skin color as she is known. But her hair is also modified to be more voluminous, with some accessories in it, and although this could have been a new version of Bocchi, thousands of users in the networks echoed the fact, attacking the artist for his work.

And the most repeated messages are those that directly attack the artist for having created this version, arguing that it is not necessary to change the ethnicity of a white character for a black one, being that if this had been the other way around, the comments would have been the same. That is why the debate was not long in coming, with very different positions on how to take this type of adaptations of characters when it comes to changing their skin color and always end up touching much more sensitive issues and making attacks of all kinds.

For his part, the artist of this illustration of Bocchi the Rock! was present not only in the comments of the work, but in his account he responded to those who took this image as something offensive. The artist is constantly creating this type of illustrations where he changes the ethnicity of the characters, such as Lilysa Amano from 2.5 Jigen no Yūwaku or Tatsumaki from One Punch Man, and it seems that he has no intention of stopping his work with this theme. That’s why we will have to see if any of his future works will also bring him problems like this Bocchi the Rock!
