With the release of the 19th compilation volume of the romance and sports manga Blue Box (Ao no Hako), the publisher Shueisha announced that the work has surpassed the incredible figure of 7.5 million copies in circulation. This news was also present on the cover of the new compilation volume of the Blue Box manga, which will be released in bookstores and stores in Japan this March 4.
It is worth noting that the figure of 7.5 million copies in print takes into account copies of the 19 volumes of the original manga that have been published to date. In addition, sales of these volumes benefited from the anime adaptation of Kouji Miura’s manga, Blue Box, which is currently airing and is produced by the animation studio Telecom Animation Film.

The manga Ao no Hako (Blue Box) has the following description: Every morning, freshman Taiki Inomata rushes to his high school gym to perfect his badminton skills. However, her real motivation is to share the empty gym with Chinatsu Kano, the star player of the girls’ basketball team and who Taiki has a crush on. Although Chinatsu seems unapproachable, Taiki gradually finds opportunities to get to know her.
Unbeknownst to Taiki, her tireless work ethic and admiration motivate Chinatsu to work harder and strive to achieve her greatest ambitions. When her family must suddenly move overseas for work, Chinatsu decides to stay in Japan and strive for victory at the national level. With nowhere to stay, she is taken in by Taiki’s mother, who is a long-time friend of Chinatsu herself. Overwhelmed by the new reality of living next to the girl he loves, Taiki decides to join Chinatsu at the national level in his own sport, and grow closer to her in the process.
However, despite being good enough to catch his coach’s eye, Taiki must fight an uphill battle to earn a spot on the starting team. Encouraged by both Chinatsu and gymnast Hina Chouno, his childhood friend, Taiki aspires to make a name for himself among his powerful upperclassmen.
