A couple of hours ago, Crunchyroll’s official networks published a piece of news that made Danmei fans very happy: the series “Mo Dao Zu Shi Zu” also known as “The Master of Diabolosm” will be added to the orange platform’s catalog on December 11.
Mysteries, growers and revenge: “Mo Dao Zu Shi” comes to Crunchyroll
The donghua danmei “Mo Dao Zu Shi” comes to Crunchyroll with its first two seasons, the series can be found under the title “The Master of Diabolism” likewise the animation will have its original audio in Chinese and English subtitles respectively.
Recall that the first season of “Mo Dao Zu Shi” was released in 2018 between July and October and was broadcast by Tencent video. This had 15 episodes, so that later in the year 2019 from August 3 to August 31 saw the light a second season of “Mo Dao Zu Shi Zu” which had a total of 8 episodes.
So far Crunchyroll only announced that the first two seasons of “Mo Dao Zu Shi” would be part of its catalog, but it is important to mention that the series also has a third season, which aired from August 7 to October 16, 2021, with a total of 12 episodes.
The series of danmei novels written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu has not only inspired one donghua series, it has inspired two, as “Mo Dao Zu Shi” has another very popular animated series, which was made in chibi format titled “Mo Dao Zu Shi Q” which has a total of 30 episodes. The adaptations do not end here, the novels have been adapted to donghua series as already mentioned, they have also received their respective adaptation to manhua, manga, audiodrama and a live action series.
The latter is one of the most famous adaptations of “Mo Dao Zu Shi”, the live action series is called “The Untamed” and was first aired on June 22, 2019, the drama had a total of 50 episodes and starred Xiao Zhan, who played Wei Wuxian and Wang Yibo who played Lan Wangji respectively. Despite the censorship suffered by the series due to Chinese policies, it had a great reception and managed to convey small glimpses of the relationship that arises between our protagonists.
Likewise, the novel “Mo Dao Zu Shi” was licensed by the Spanish publishing house Norma Editorial, which is under the title “The Grand Master of Demonic Cultivation”. This new edition has a total of 5 volumes, which in turn have two versions, the paperback version and the hardcover version.
“Mo Dao Zu Shi” immerses us in a supernatural story full of adventure and mystery, where the protagonist is Wei Wuxian, a great master disowned by those who unfortunately crossed his path and who at the time was considered the founder of demonic cultivation. Due to the many evils he caused, Wei Wuxian was hunted down and killed by different clans who joined forces to do away with him.
Years later, due to a forbidden ritual, Wei Wuxian reincarnated as a young man named Mo Xuanyu, everyone knows Mo Xuanyu as a mad man who has lost his mind and was banished from his clan. This situation led Mo Xuanyu to offer his body to Wei Wuxian as a sacrifice so that when he reincarnates he will take revenge on his terrible family.
But not everything will be so easy for him, as a series of events leads Wei Wuxian to meet again with an old master with whom he had many clashes in the past. Lan Wangji is the second young master of the Gusu Lan sect and once he sees Mo Xuanyu, he realizes that he is Wei Wuxian in another body. As a result of this, Lan Wangji decides to help Wei Wuxian to clear his name and thus begins a journey where both will fight against different creatures and solve mysteries while different feelings arise from them.
