Recently, different official sources from Netflix, released the news that they are working on “10 Dance” a Live Action movie based on the manga with the same name; this adaptation will star Ryoma Takeuchi who we have seen in other projects such as “Roppongi Class” as well as in “Black Pean” and Keita Machida who we know for his role in another Netflix series called “Alice in Borderland” and “Cherry Magic” which is another famous BL series.
Live Action of “10 Dance” shows the passion for dancing
The film “10 Dance” will be directed by Keishi Otomo, known for his work on the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films. Moreover, Keishi will co-write the script along with Tomoko Yoshida who we know for her work on the tragic anime film “I Want to Eat Your Pancreas”, plus Masaru Yokoyama who has surprised us with his work on Urusei Yatsura (2022) and Horimiya, joins the roster as music composer.
“This film challenges us to explore the depths of love and its capacity,” were the words said by director Otomo. “When two people dance passionately together, they become so synchronized that they seem to transform into something greater, transcending boundaries with hidden emotions and passions. With Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida, we aim to deliver a glamorous and fresh dance film that will captivate audiences,” he commented.
The manga “10 Dance” saw the light of day when it was published in Kodansha’s Young Magazine, where it gained a lot of popularity as a pioneer in competitive dance comics. The story surprised by its unique narrative and thanks to its originality won the “This BL is Amazing!” award in 2019, with this it is expected that Netflix manages to capture the originality and competitiveness that shows us the original work and is also expected to premiere worldwide next 2025.
The Boys Love “10 Dance” manga was originally published on Takeshobo’s Reijin and Reijin Bravo! websites from December 2011 to April 2015. Later, in November 2016, it was moved to Kodansha’s Young Magazine the 3rd, and in December 2021, it continued its publication on Kodansha’s YanMaga portal. The seventh compilation volume was released by Kodansha in January 2023 and Kodansha USA Publishing made it available in English in September 2023.
Both actors meet for the first time in a project, on the one hand, we have Ryoma Takeuchi makes his Netflix debut playing Shinya Suzuki, the Japanese Latin dance champion, on the other hand, Keita Machida plays Shinya Sugiki, the Japanese champion and second dancer in the world in the standard ballroom dance category.
The story tells us how these two dancers are complete opposites and seem to live in completely different worlds, but they are united by their love for dance and the desire to win in the “10 Dance” competition where they are paired in a seemingly improbable duet. Both dancers must learn each other’s specialties, but this will not be as easy as it seems, as the rivalry and new feelings that begin to blossom make it quite complicated.
