BERSERK

Berserk criticized for sexualizing women

Berserk” is a work that since its inception in 1989, through the publication of a manga written by the late author, Kentaro Miura, has always generated a certain level of discussion regarding the contents that are reflected in the crude story. Since in it, we can find multiple situations that contain certainly graphic scenes for a more common audience, such as deaths, gory scenes, scenes of high tone, or dark for the time in which we live today.

From time to time new discussions about “Berserk” tend to arise for the aforementioned reasons. That is why today, we bring a controversy that causes problems in the country of Brazil. It originates after an extensive article, which confirms a recent growth in the interest, as in the consumption of anime, by people with dark skin. Kentaro Miura’s work at first seems to have no relation to this situation, so psychologist Darcielle Macedo will shed some more light on the subject.

Berserk Es Criticado Por Sexualizar A Las Mujeres

Darcielle Macedo mentions that although at first, some works such as “Berserk” or even “Naruto“, do not have such a notorious representation towards them as there are in stories told in other countries, they usually have a very well created base, in addition to the fact that the protagonists have a great importance. This is because the ideal of each of the characters about “striving and never giving up” is something that characterizes brown people, according to their own words.

However, in the interviews conducted with the people specified by the psychologist, some criticisms were also known, some about there being a certain level of sexualization in “Berserk” that does not go unnoticed. A 13-year-old girl, in this case, among dislikes, narrates the situation of reading the work with her older brother and seeing that Casca, one of the “brunette” fighters who fights alongside Guts, the protagonist, was sexualized by the author, possibly referring to the scene where she is “assaulted” by Griffith.

Of course, everything would have remained a simple controversy if it were not for the fact that the 13-year-old girl also points out that, perhaps, Japanese people see brown people in a morbid way, which does not generate any kind of teachings in the viewer, using as an example the case of Casca in “Berserk“. That article became so viral that it went to forums all over Japan. Therefore, we rescue some of the multiple reactions they had upon hearing the news:

“What is a 13-year-old girl doing watching Berserk?” “Why watch Berserk? You should consider following Boku no Hero or Kimetsu no Yaiba” Although among so many criticisms towards the sayings mentioned by the girl, some encourage her opinion, as they consider it a problem: “The racy scenes have increased since I was a kid, it’s an unnecessary element”. What about you, do you think these criticisms are justified or that, in fact, they require more objectivity, knowing that the play is not aimed at minors?
