Last January 16, the anime world and, in particular, the “Attack on Titan” (Shingeki no Kyojin) community witnessed a long-awaited event: the official release of “Attack on Titan: Requiem.” This fan project, created by the talented Studio Eclypse, has arrived on YouTube to offer a reinterpretation of the end of the acclaimed series, a topic that has generated intense debates and diverse opinions among fans.

The project “Attack on Titan: Requiem” hits YouTube, offering a new take on the series’ controversial finale

Attack on Titan: Requiem” is not just another fan project; it is a declaration of love and respect for Hajime Isayama’s work, as well as a response to the need to explore alternative story paths. The initiative is based on the eponymous doujinshi “Attack on Titan No Requiem”, which in turn is inspired by the emotional song “Akatsuki no Requiem”. This doujinshi, which currently has four chapters published out of a total of ten planned, has served as the starting point for this ambitious adaptation.

The first episode of “Attack on Titan: Requiem”, lasting 15 minutes, is now available on Studio Eclypse’s YouTube channel. Although it currently features English voices, the studio has promised to release a Japanese version in the coming months, which will include opening and ending sequences, further resembling a standard anime. This dedication to detail demonstrates the studio’s commitment to quality and viewer experience.

Importantly, Studio Eclypse has made it clear that their intention is not to replace the original “Attack on Titan” ending, nor are they against it. In fact, the “Attack on Titan No Requiem” doujinshi began being written long before the studio existed, which means they share no staff or future plans. Their main goal is to explore an alternate vision of the story, offering fans the opportunity to dive into a “what if” that has resonated with the community for a long time.

Despite the doujinshi’s popularity, Studio Eclypse has announced that they will not be adapting all ten chapters. Instead, they will focus on adapting only the first chapter, and will then move on to work on their “The Black Swordsman” project, in addition to developing their own original content. This decision demonstrates the studio’s creative vision and desire to explore new stories and universes.

The release of “Attack on Titan: Requiem” has generated great anticipation and has been enthusiastically received by the fan community. The quality of the animation, the faithfulness to the spirit of the original work and the courage to explore an alternative ending have been widely praised. This project is a clear example of how the love for a story can inspire fans to create works that enrich the original universe and offer new perspectives.
