It’s been 5 months and for fans of the Atelier saga this wait has been more than eternal since the announcement of the next title in this Koei Tecmo franchise. Even more excited are those longtime Xbox users when they learned that “The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land” would be the first of the entire saga to arrive to this ecosystem. However, and after some statements from the creators of this new game in the franchise, it has been revealed that the installment where the main protagonist, Yumia, had some inspiration in the Halo franchise, especially in a much-loved character.
The Atelier Yumia Easter-egg that no one noticed, not even the Halo fandom.
Halo “Combat Evolved” popularly known as “Halo 1” was the debut video game of Xbox that came as direct competition of desktop consoles like PlayStation One, PlayStation 2, Nintendo 64 and later Game Cube. Quickly becoming one of the most symbolic FPS of that decade and one of the most top in future times, with titles like Halo Reach and Halo 4, which was a reboot for what we had known so far, very risky, but thanks to its adaptation to the Lore a resounding success.
However, all the aforementioned franchise is the most popular, acclaimed and recommended in the history of Xbox, not only for the challenges it represents, but also for the story and the depth that each narrative intends to tell us. From the meaning of heroism, friendship, loyalty and true love, the franchise introduces us besides the Master Chief, the co-star of the events “Cortana” one of the most beloved of all history.
It is at this point that Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land, the next installment of Koei Tecmo’s legendary franchise has a close relationship with the most famous saga of the Xbox ecosystem: Cortana. Our beautiful protagonist Yumia Liessfeldt will be accompanied at almost all times by Flammi, a fun, efficient and floating companion that often appears to be a flame in reference to her name, and as incredible as it may seem, this charismatic and totally new character was inspired by John 117’s companion.
The director of The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land said regarding this close relationship that Flammi and Cortana will have:
“I wanted to make something where we could have a conversation between a main protagonist and someone close to him who is always together. Playing Halo was a lot of fun and that’s why I really wanted to add a pet for Atelier Yumia.”
Although there have already been some games where there is an AI or the character is accompanied, it is especially curious that a franchise that started in 1997 and has positioned itself in other industries takes inspiration from one started almost 5 years later and that has passed almost unnoticed in recent years. However, the first gameplays and previews of the game show that it is the most ambitious of all those released by Koei Tecmo, even bigger than the popular and acclaimed Ryza trilogy.
The video game for Xbox Series X|S and One is now available on the Microsoft Store in its 3 digital formats which are: Base, Ultimate and Deluxe. The same editions were released for PlayStation digital stores and Steam, although it is worth paying special attention to the Xbox version, because it is the first game of the franchise in that ecosystem. Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land will be released in both physical and digital formats starting March 21, 2025.
