Anime: the best mistakes in the animation of well-known series

As some of you may know, animation is one of the most laborious processes to bring a story and its characters to life, all so that we, the viewers, can enjoy it. There are many forms and branches within animation, but here we will focus on the Japanese animation style, i.e. anime, and we will see some hilarious and obnoxious mistakes, similar to these that are talked about in networks.

Errors and inconsistencies within the animation in some anime.

Animacion Errores 00121 1

The creation of an anime takes a long process of creation, and not only at the time of starting to draw and give life to the characters, it also takes a huge paperwork where several people are involved, part of all that makes the production of an anime is a somewhat difficult job. Mainly, we find productions that have mostly given a good or at least decent animation quality, but this time we will focus on anime, some old and some newer ones, that have shown some curious errors in their animation, some examples would be deformed faces, overlapping images, deformed anatomy, objects that disappear and appear, etc.

The transparent stairs in Uzumaki

Uzumaki Error De Animacion 00065 11Zon

We start with a very recent case, the popular horror anime Uzumaki, written by Junji Ito, has made its premiere almost two weeks ago, having now 2 episodes available, but what has given to talk about is the last one released. This has had several criticisms for the poor quality in the animation of the characters, denoting the lack of fluidity in their movement, but what the public has also pointed out is the scenery, where part of a wall is superimposed on a staircase.

Characters “step on each others” in Classroom of the Elite

Cote Error De Animacion 00069

During the summer of 2022, we had after 5 years the return of Classroom of the Elite with its second season, but some people pointed out that its animation had some inconsistencies in its quality. It is a scene during episode 6 that catches the public’s attention the most, as two characters can be seen running, but one is on top of the other, failing in the order of position.

A strange CGI in Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudō

Kaminaki Sekai No Kamisama Katsudo Error De Animacion 00073

More than a year ago we were given the anime Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudō, and it had certain controversies with its animation, since during some episodes what could be remarked the most was the use of CGI, and that is one of the most criticized resources when making an anime. Although in this situation we will not point out the use of this technique, since one of the scenes that was most pointed out was one where a real life video was used, and what they did was to place a filter to simulate that it was animated, finally they placed the character’s head on top of the person in the video.

The shapeless faces of Beelzebub

Beelzebub Error De Animacion 00130

If we do not go back in time more than 10 years ago we had Beelzebub, a story that revolves around Oga Tatsumi, who saves a baby floating in the river, but this is the son of the Demon King, and now he will be in charge of taking care of him. In this anime you can find one of the most hilarious animation errors, since during episode 48 you can see Hilda’s character with her face split almost in half, only to recover it a few moments later as if nothing had happened.

Bad finger counting in Yo-kai Watch

Yo Kai Error De Animacion 00082

Another anime that also had its premiere almost 10 years ago was Yo-kai Watch, with a story that reminded us of other anime like Pokémon and Digimon for its main theme of collecting fantasy creatures. In it we could see one of the most common animation mistakes, which would be to add several fingers on the hand, as we see here the girl Fumika is pointing with her hand, but she has 6 fingers instead of 5.

Rare” faces in Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon Crystal Error De Animacion 00085

When we had the remake of Sailor Moon, named Salor Moon Crystal, we could see some moments of dubious animation quality, especially when defining the details in the design of the characters. A clear example was the error in the shape and face of Usagi in episode 3, which has a too triangular shape and exaggerated eyes, fortunately all these errors and inconsistencies were resolved in the Blu-ray.

As we already know, several of these problems in animation happen because of crises that occur during production, as studios leave animators short of time, and end up doing things in a hurry, commonly giving us weird looking characters, a more current example would be the following:

The facial expressions in Buta no Liver wa Kanetsu Shiro

Butareba Error De Animacion 00089 11Zon

Just a year ago, on October 8, was the premiere of Buta no Liver wa Kanetsu Shiro, an isekai anime that stood out for its particular protagonist, since the character was reincarnated as a pig. The animation left much to be desired during the last episodes, this because its production went into chaos, leaving it pending and delaying its premiere until February 5 of this year, its animation left us static and rigid moments especially in fights, along with deformed faces as we can see.

Incongruities of the characters in the scene of Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau

Sasayaku 1 Error De Animacion 00093
Sasayaku 2 Error De Animacion 00097
Sasayaku 3 Error De Animacion 00101 11Zon
Sasayaku 4 Error De Animacion 00105
Sasayaku 5 Error De Animacion 00109

In January of this year we would receive the premiere of Yuri Sasayaku You ni Koi wo Utau, but it delayed its release to April due to “various circumstances”, which was only a harbinger of what was to come. The last episodes to come out were a disaster, giving us the wrong look for the characters, but also things that appeared and disappeared during some sequences, that’s what could be seen in episode 7 where the drummer was no longer included in certain shots. Because of all this, episodes 11 and 12 were delayed indefinitely.

Incorrect “plot” in Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen

Kimi To Boku No Saigo No Senjou Aruiwa Sekai Ga Hajimaru Seisen Error De Animacion 00113
Kimi To Boku No Saigo No Senjou Aruiwa Sekai Ga Hajimaru Seisen 2 Error De Animacion 00117

Finally we have Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen, its animation problems could be seen during its second season released last summer, its production was one of the worst, since they only managed to animate 4 episodes, delaying the others indefinitely. Their mistakes could be seen especially in the anatomy of the characters, being the one that unleashed more criticism in episode 2, where the “waifu” embraces with her “weft” the protagonist, only that this looks deformed and out of phase with her, seeming to cross her, at the end of the scene changes the position of the arm and puts it out of her body.

All these animation errors can be comical or unpleasant for the viewers. However, it is important to remember that the final product must be of good quality, as the audience is expecting a well-made product. But also, companies should stop pressuring their workers and provide them with adequate time to do their job, because only then will it be possible to achieve anime that meets the quality expectations that fans deserve.
