2024 has been a good year for video games, as it has had great releases so far in the first half, from console exclusives on Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox X Series X|S, in addition to the sublime presentations of video games during June. But the surprises for the community do not end there, and below we present a list with the best confirmed announcements that await all gamers for the second half of 2024.
Second half of 2024 will be as intense as the first half for video games
The first half of 2024 has demonstrated the value of the graphics engines of both Playstation 5 and Xbox S|X Series with games that exploit the potential of the Unreal Engine as did Tekken 8, Stellar Blade and the one that took it to the limit as Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga, where the details were impressive, these games with high level of realism also called “AAA” will be very present in the second half of 2024, in addition to other surprises confirmed.
One of the “Soulslike” that many are already waiting for is Black Myth: Wukong, a video game that will be in direct competition with other 2 Souls like Stellar Blade and Shadow of Erdtree. This title is the myth on which ultra-popular stories such as Goku from Dragon Ball have been based. Black Myth will be a multiplatform videogame and although there are controversies regarding the temporary exclusivity with Sony, it does not detract from its merits to be within this list. The RPG “Wukong” will be a next-gen exclusive and is scheduled for release on August 20.
Another game that is aiming very high is DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO that will host confirmed characters from the first Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, going through a large amount of Dragon Ball Super, in addition to the Super movies, also introducing characters from Dragon Ball GT. This title made under the fantastic Unreal Engine will be released next October 11 and will be multiplatform Next-gen exclusive as the first Dragon Ball video game focused on fights since Dragon Ball Fighter Z in 2018
Two titles from developer Ubisoft will also arrive for the delight of the most fanatical fans, Star Wars: Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, video games that will take the Unreal Engine to the maximum and that since the date on which their extended gameplay was shown have not ceased to be a topic of conversation: Outlaws for being the first videogame of the open world saga with a female protagonist who is not a jedi in the style of Mass Effect, and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows for being the first title of the franchise to include a historical character with one of the most honorable stories: Yasuke “The colored samurai”. Outlaws will be released on June 30 and Shadows on November 15.
ASTROS’s Playroom was a Sony exclusive game that first saw the light in 2020 and users who purchased the PS5 could play it to test the features of the new PlayStation 5 controller, that’s how it became one of the most beloved platform video games, competing directly with Ratchet & Clank: A Dimension Apart. Now, 4 years later, Sony made the official announcement of the now called “ASTRO BOT” which is already causing a lot of expectation with its preview and will be released on September 6th.
Following the wave of games, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a presumed continuation of COD Black Ops: Cold War. The new game in the franchise will be set after the Cold War, remembering that it ended between 1989 and 1991 with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the USSR. The last installment of a “Black Ops” was released as an intergenerational game at the end of 2020, subsequently other installments were released such as: Vanguard, MW II, MW III and the Battle Royale Warzone 2.0. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 25, 2024.
Electronic Arts and Bioware also have their title ready to be one of the best of the year, being that the return of one of the most popular RPGs, Dragon Age, seemed to be finished with its trilogy: Origins, II and Inquisition. But now Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be the return of the mythical saga, which was presented at the Xbox Showcase with a cinematic trailer, some game specs and a bit of gameplay. Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released in autumn this year.
After announcing that there would be no talk of their new console at the Nintendo Direct in June, many believed that the event would be a failure, fortunately a lot of high quality games were presented that put the name of the brand high and one of them was The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, being that it was only a matter of time until a TLOZ game starring Princess Zelda would be released. Both the cinematics and the combat tactics look spectacular, which will be released on September 26th.
The “best horror and psychological horror video game ever” according to experts and gamers will be back in the second half of 2024 as a console exclusive on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. On October 8, the Silent Hill 2 remake will be released 13 years after its original release in 2001. For those who don’t know this is the story of James Sunderland who receives a letter from his late wife to pay him a visit in Silent Hill, James has to face his own demons to arrive alone to discover a sour outcome.
Other games highlighted for this 2024 are:LEGO Horizon Adventures which will not only be exclusive to Playstation 5, but will also be available on Nintendo Switch, Metal Gear Solid (Delta): Snake Eater which is expected to be available for the holidays, although there is no exact confirmation, Funko Fusion, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Mario Party: Jamboree and OD, the first game to be released by Kojima Productions in partnership with Xbox Game Studios on December 7.
Finally, the so-called “console wars” seem to be rekindled once again after 4 years and Xbox took the first step with the announcement of 3 new consoles during the Xbox Showcase 2024 that will be launched during this year’s holiday season: The Xbox Series S Robot White 1TB, Xbox Series X “Robot White” Digital and the Xbox Series X “Galaxy Black” 2TB.
