With the arrival of the new manga of the famous creator of Air Gear, Ito Ōgure, also known by his stage name Oh! Great, which is titled Kaijin Fugeki, has granted some interviews, it is in one of them more specifically for the website Gendai Media in which the artist speaks openly of his opinion on AI and how he believes that this can not express themselves as we humans do

We know that nowadays the use of AI is becoming more and more frequent, and lately it is being used to support almost everything, including drawing. In this interview with Air Gear creator Ito Ōgure, he was asked about the changes the manga industry is going through “Recently, the manga industry has also seen the entry of AI. I would like to say, ‘Come on, I’m ready for you,’ but when it comes to a technology competition, I feel like we don’t stand a chance,” was what he replied.
Among many of his answers, this is one of the most interesting “However, I think that both in the past and in the present, it wasn’t necessarily the people who drew the best who sold the most. Whoever draws well only seems to draw well, and the greatest talent is the expression of individuality” and it seems that for Ito Ōgure it is much more important the content of a work rather than its drawing.
This type of situations we can even see them in anime where works like One Piece or Neon Genesis Evangelion (just to mention a few), are series that at some point have been criticized for their bad animation, apparently popularity does not exempt you from being measured in some controversies. “They have the individuality to “draw well” and are exceptional at showing it. On the other hand, there are many people who don’t draw so well, but still sell a lot. Therefore, what is important is not only drawing, but also the ability to express one’s individuality well” added the mangaka.
As we mentioned before, the creator of Air Gear is quite faithful to his ideas and this is reflected when giving his answers, for this artist the AI can not express what a human being can, in this sense the art created by AI will always never reach the creativity and feeling of a true artist. “In an era where technology loses its meaning with the advent of AI, I believe that those who have the ability to express their own individuality, their own art, are the true “good designers”” he comments.
Finally Ito Ōgure was asked if there is any way to beat AI, this is what he said, “In the end, I think it all comes down to communication. When we speak, we somehow predict how the other person will receive our words, right? I think this kind of anticipatory telepathy is also necessary when drawing manga…”
“…Although I’m terrible at speaking in person, through manga I’m of the opinion that I can express myself better (laughs). Also, at the current stage, I think AI still doesn’t have the ability to feel human emotions. Fans of Ito Ōgure and his works such as Air Gear were delighted with his answers and many individuals think the same, when creating a work through AI it loses the essence that a human can imbue. Even after this interview many fans came to mind the Mob Psycho 100 manga, which for many people has a rather questionable art, but its story has won the hearts of thousands.
